Austria's largest photography festival FOTO WIEN, which was planned from 10 to 28 March 2021, will be postponed to March 2022. After thorough examination, it is not possible to implement the festival as planned due to the current Covid 19 developments.
Out of responsibility towards the artists, the programme partners, the funding bodies as well as the audience and the staff, the festival will therefore be postponed by one year and will take place from 9 to 27 March 2022.
Programme partners who are unable to rearrange their plans and would like to hold the exhibitions in spring 2021 will be supported in their application via the available communication channels of FOTO WIEN. The intensive months of preparation that KUNST HAUS WIEN and the numerous programme partners have already undertaken will be incorporated into the upcoming edition of FOTO WIEN 2022.
The date for the new Call For Projects will be announced in April 2021.
The aim of the FOTO WIEN photo festival is to bring photography and photo art closer to a broad public in accordance with the social and cultural relevance of the medium. In addition to visiting the exhibitions, the intensive and lively exchange between artists within the art and photo community as well as with the audience is an essential part of the festival. However, the networking and the implementation of the mediation programme are not compatible with the current restriction on contact.
The FOTO WIEN programme includes exhibitions in galleries, off-spaces, artists' associations, museums and institutions throughout the city. In addition, the festival offers an extensive and specially curated exhibition programme at the FOTO WIEN festival headquarters as well as accompanying mediation formats such as symposia, artist talks, discussions, image reviews, workshops, guided tours, award ceremonies and a Photobook Market. In 2019, the FOTO WIEN offers were taken up by around 75,000 visitors.
