Greta Znojemsky: So Close Yet So Far Away
Exhibition
M2 Maxingstraße 2, 1130 Wien
9.—31.10.2025
Artists: Znojemsky Greta
In addition to the major issues regarding the impact of digitization on our social system, the question of humanity’s relationship to nature in a world that is characterized by change also needs to be posed. Not least through the social changes in connection with the pandemic, human beings are experiencing the concepts of proximity and distance in a new way: through forced social isolation, the significance of space of recreation areas. The merging of nature and the digital experience of nature determine everyday life. Utopias of cyborgs may still be far-fetched, but what radical transformations will result from the digitization of our individual and collective lives? We do not know what will happen in the future.
The boundaries between bodies and technology, between individual experience and networked processes of communication, are shifting. The digitization also influences our relationship to nature. Are views of the forest on our computer screens and the smell of meadows via smart fragrance stations merely visions of the future? The search for sensorial experiences in nature and live experiences in real places are irreplaceable. The thing that differentiates us from computers and digital media is our ability to experience.
