Annja Krautgasser. Looking for Goodies
Exhibition
Korridor – Raum für aktuelle Kunst Hertha-Firnberg-Straße 10 Stiege 4, 1100 Wien
1.10.—5.11.2025
Artists: Krautgasser Annja
Curator: Petra Noll-Hammerstiel
Annja Krautgasser has developed the photography, film, sound (Ursula Winterauer), and performance project Looking for Goodies. Its starting point is the video Kriegsszenen (War Scenes, 2020) along with related photographs and collages.
In this research-based, reference-rich project, a landscape becomes a projection surface—not only for the staging of war, but also for the reconstruction of social orders and hierarchies. Who creates images? Who determines how history is represented—and to what end?
The work presents a world that appears authentic, yet follows a visual language that has, over decades, been inscribed into the collective imagination of war—through documentaries, propaganda, feature films, and digital simulations. In the re-enactment of war, history is not only “restaged” but a system of power distribution is cemented.
The exhibition reveals how these images not only look back but also extend into the future—into a time where violence no longer appears as an exception, but as a rehearsed possibility. These scenarios open a view into a society shifting alarmingly to the right, where the means of image production are subtly deployed for manipulation. It is a view into a present increasingly shaped by fear—of control, subjugation, unpredictability.
