HYDRA+FOTOGRAFÍA & Mafalda Rakoš
Exhibition
FOTOGALERIE WIEN Währingerstraße 59, 1090 Wien
30.9.—11.10.2025
Artists: Casas Broda Ana, Rakoš Mafalda
As part of an artistic research project organized by FOTOGALERIE WIEN, Austrian artist Mafalda Rakoš was hosted by HYDRA+FOTOGRAFÍA in Mexico City in February 2025.
HYDRA+FOTOGRAFÍA is a platform founded in 2012 that encourages photography-related projects that are based on reflection, dialogue, and collaboration. Its activities include an educational program, an editorial project, a bookstore that specializes in international photobooks, exhibitions, and numerous other events.
At HYDRA+FOTOGRAFÍA, Mafalda Rakoš held a series of workshops that were aimed at local artists and focused on social and artistic aspects of portrait photography. The artist exchange supported by this platform will be continued in Vienna in October 2025. Together with Mafalda Rakoš, Ana Casas Broda (HYDRA+FOTOGRAFÍA) will activate the spaces of FOTOGALERIE WIEN.
The presentation of HYDRA+FOTOGRAFÍA features the publishing house, a collective project that was founded in Mexico in 2018. It is based on the experience of producing photobooks in which different narrative tools, hybrid production, and collaborative processes are used. The publishing project focuses on authors developing their photobook in the form of a creative, experimental, and unique process, supported by a varied palette of conceptional and practical tools from editors, designers, authors, and printers who work in the production program Photobook Incubator. HYDRA+FOTOGRAFÍA has already published over thirty books, which will be presented at FOTOGALERIE WIEN.
Austrian photo artist Mafalda Rakoš presents the output of her residency in Mexico City as well as her own recent photobooks.
