Palampore
Exhibition
hoast Grosse Sperlgasse 25, 1020 Wien
18.10.—1.11.2025
Artists: Kaufmann Lukas
Curator: Wolfgang Obermair, Ekaterina Shapiro-Obermair
Lukas Kaufmann’s photographic series make visible the interpenetration of interior and exterior beyond the boundaries of spatial and emotional paradigms. His portraits, shifting between extro- and introspection, merge with the intricate ornaments of floral textiles. The patterns of these fabrics—often used in interior spaces—are stylized depictions of plant-covered outdoor environments such as gardens or forests. In Kaufmann’s images, the branching stems and expansive blossoms become more than backdrops with attributes of the private sphere; they act as synaptic extensions of the thoughts and inner states of the portrayed individuals. The result is a network of conceptual references and intimate worlds of feeling.
As part of his solo presentation at the artist-run space Hoast, Kaufmann presents a series of constellationally linked photographs whose surface treatments respond to the specific conditions of the exhibition space. A direct correlation emerges between the visibility of individual image layers, the positioning of the works within the space, and the incidence of light along the elongated exhibition walls.
