Exhibition
Lumen X–Offenes Fotolabor, Projektraum WUK Währinger Straße 59, 1090 Wien
25.—29.10.2025
Artists: Cirillo Maurizio, Mairböck Harald, Pfleger Kerstin, Pölzl Sophie, Scholz Aindreas
Curator: Aindreas Scholz
With guest curator Aindreas Scholz, six artists from the open photo laboratory Lumen X reactivate and reinterpret traditional photographic methods through sustainable practice. The exhibition shows ecologically sensitive ways of producing images that question the norms of digital and AI-controlled photography and encourage manual, tactile processes.
In the spirit of William Henry Fox Talbot’s “painting with light,” the project focuses on the manual skills of photography such as plant-based anthotypes and cyanotypes dipped in ocean water. This approach highlights not only the ecological impact of producing photographs but also encourages an important dialog about sustainability and responsibility.
Visitors are invited to explore these techniques and to critically question the role of photography today in a workshop. “Re_expose” presents a future in which the art of photography has been brought into harmony with ecological awareness and analog handcraft are connected to urgent contemporary issues.
