“Things Are Closer Than They Seem” introduces us to characters who live, party, and go about their lives in spite of complications. They are characters who are exploring their own identity, wishes, and beliefs. Characters who create models through their activities and give inspiration are essential in periods such as the present. Activism and humanitarian help offer a glimpse of hope. Collectives that have embraced alternative living concepts are asserting their rights. Some of the works highlight the tension between individual freedom and external pressure as well as the invisible barriers that separate us yet also could connect us.

“Dynamic futures,” the theme of FOTO WIEN is developed by examining possible futures using change and movement. The works on display reflect on the tension between freedom and social pressures, highlights invisible barriers, and investigates places that were once lively centers and are now victims of change. It is about resistance, adaptation, and the courage to actively shape the future—in the interplay of past, present, and a dynamic future.
