Interruption and Progress—A Future of Photography
Exhibition
OpenCave Kaisermühlenstraße 14, 1220 Wien
10.10.—7.11.2025
Artists: Bachhofer Michael
“Interruption”: Every day we are surprised by the news, which shows us realms that we were hardly able to imagine previously—suddenly transforming us into objects in disruptive processes. The familiar disappears; collective memory and libraries lose their content. On opening night, imagery will be cut up and indiscriminately thrown together: a chaotic pile that visitors to the exhibition will try in vain to reassemble.
“Progress”: The exhibition will concurrently explore scientific and technological influences on photography. Large-format photographs and interactive installations demonstrate automated processes in which hundreds of thousands to millions of pictures will be taken, interrelated, and condensed into detailed models. A compact distillate (on a scale of 1 to 10,000) will be created from material amounting to one Terabyte, opening new perspectives: unusual points of view and interactive dynamic lighting reveal microscopic details of nature.
Both projects are independent and also form a unit that impressively represents the change between decay and renewal.
