New Jörg Jägerstraße 56, 1200 Wien
3.10.—2.11.2025
Artists: Hofbauer Anna, Koschier Axel, Topitschnig Patrick, Tusman Lee, Zadeh Amelie
If you were to put photography on the couch as a patient, it would have many issues from its life to share. Indexicality made it suffer for a long time, its death has often been predicted, the digital world and image-generating AIs are pushing it to its limit—as a medium, process, and act—and it seems to be on its way out. The future is unsettling. In our position sitting opposite photography, we would like to dedicate an exhibition to photography, in which the presence of other artistic disciplines and media is intended to halt its diffusion. How can photography be positioned in the exhibition space despite its dystopian-seeming crises? Or does the threat of dissolving represent the potential that makes photography visionary?

With the selection of artists for “ISSUES,” we would like to pursue this by exploring issues ranging from classic camera practices to working with light-sensitive material and deconstructing the photographic gaze as well as the idea of dissolving space into surface. The compilation of works is to be seen as a reference to the camera body, darkrooms, and Cartesian space that will be viewable in a garage during the entire run of the festival.
