The Horizon Proliferates Between Fluid and Solid . . . and Flirts – CZIHAK-SCHUMANN-ZOBL
Exhibition
Turm 113 und Atelier Gumpendorfer Straße 113 (im Hof), 1060 Wien
5.—31.10.2025
Artists: Czihak Elisabeth, Schumann Claudia, Zobl Beatrix
Analog and digital works grow to create a condensed, immersive installation, forming a new space of experience through intertwining. Images and objects encounter spaces and bodies.
A new edition that was created especially for FOTO WIEN offers works by the three artists and others can be purchased in the studio opposite.
This first collaboration serves the pleasurable interaction of the three artists, linking and interweaving their work. It creates a new, stimulating whole and a visually sensuous space of experience, guaranteeing a moving experience for artists and visitors alike.
Elisabeth Czihak works with moments of formal reduction and abstraction, with spatial voids and absence, and with gaps and negative space. She is interested in spatial and geometric aspects, not only considering the gaze but also the relationship to the body.
Claudia Schumann’s multimedia praxis with a focus on photography tells of the complex connection between destruction, disturbance, and confirmation. In her exploration of conscious/unconscious phenomena, ambivalences, and contradictions, the in-between area becomes the main space of possibilities for reflection, poetry, and resistance.
In recent years Beatrix Zobl has worked increasingly without a camera in her exploration of light-sensitive surfaces. Control, intention, and chance as well as the endurance of frustration and vulnerability are the subjects of her series. They are shaped by the delight of experimentation and are accordingly shaped by the sensory experiences that arise from it.
