Soft Vanishing Points
Exhibition
Kunstraum SUPER Schönbrunner Str. 10, 1050 Wien
10.—24.10.2025
Artists: Schranz Janine, Zeilinger Daniela
Janine Schranz and Daniela Zeilinger challenge the basic conditions of the medium of photography in their work in a subtle way. In their joint project “Soft Vanishing Points,” fundamental issues regarding photography and space enter into a poetic dialogue. The attempt to represent space on a two-dimensional surface has not been a topic of art only since the Renaissance. The discovery of one-point perspective that corresponds to a distortion-free photographic illustration is closely connected to the discovery of the camera obscura. The sharpness of the photographic image, on the other hand, is due to the exact refraction of light through a polished glass lens.

“Soft Vanishing Points” takes up the topics of perception and gaze. Fused glass plates, which are simultaneously image and object, beckon to visitors to gaze through them, offering a changed perception of space that is not focused on one vanishing point. At the same time, they visually embody the abstracted gaze of one-point perspective. The glass objects are developed in relation to the architecture of the exhibition space Kunstraum SUPER and complemented by color photograms.
